As far as we know about Sustainable Endeavours – Honeycomb Paper versus PE bubble envelope!At A&A Naturals, we care very deeply about the environment and the kind of impact we will leave behind. That’s why a considerable amount of packaging materials used for our packaging is reused, collected weekly through our like-minded community. Our goal is to combat the problem of single-use plastic, and we believe the way to do this is to reuse the packaging materialscurrently in circulation. This helps us to avoid generating further waste by ordering new packaging materials.
Honeycomb Paper
We agree, eco-friendly packaging and bubble material options are definitely better choices for the future. Currently the “in thing” is biodegradable honeycomb paper. An innovative way to secure items and parcels. It is basically craft paper that has been cut into honeycomb shaped pieces that creates a strong cushion to wrap fragile and delicate items securely.
Not only does this material look neat and pretty, but it is also made out of 100% Kraft Paper, which is compostable, recyclable and biodegradable. So, it is definitely a great invention helping to preserve our environment and save it from further sources of pollution.
As an eco-conscious brand, we were immediately attracted by the idea of using this kind of paper and started to do a little more research and put lots of deep thinking into it…(Yes, we love to think a lot .
We looked into the sourcing of honeycomb paper, its costing, the effects of using it, etc…Instead of jumping straight into sourcing this packaging material, we took a deep breath and decided its to fast to make a decision. We told ourselves, we should think a bit more (maybe take a few more deep breaths) and debate this topic, looking critically into this matter, weighing pro’s and con’s … and so we went on… for a few months.
Why? However no matter how great the idea of replacing bubble mailer with honeycomb paper is, the impact and benefit may not be that straight forward… at least for now.As an eco-friendly brand, we think through a lot about how we produce, package and deliver our products. Each process we implement and step we take plays a role along the way in impacting our environment.
PE Bubble Envelope
Our regular customers know that we reuse as much as we can in PE bubble envelope
each courier package. In fact, for the past three years we have not purchased any PE bubble envelope at all. We have practiced weekly collections of used packaging materials within our community and guess what?
The amount of bubble in circulation have increased significantly during the past years due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the imposed lockdowns. We were shocked to have faced increased amounts of plastic wrap and hence, we don’t have the problem of not having enough reusable packaging material anymore!
Consumers are also becoming more and more aware of the impact of single use plastic for the environment.
To our surprise, the community around us who loves online shopping is keeping up with habits to keep their air column bag and pass them on to e-commerce sellers nearby. What a great effort! It not only reduces the amount of single-use plastic, preventing it from landing prematurely in landfills, but also saves costs for e-commerce sellers, by providing packaging materials at no- or very low costs. I call that a Win-Win situation!
So instead of purchasing honeycomb paper now (which won’t solve the problem of having excess bubble wrap circulating the community), we have decided to continue to collect and reuse as much plastic wrap as we can, until we reach the day where there is no more to reuse. Otherwise, we would just end up creating more waste and not solving the existing problem of single use plastic.
When we have successfully reused all the single-use plastic waste we can, we will happily turn to other eco-friendly alternatives in the market, including honeycomb paper and such. Until then, we hope you’ll join our efforts to reuse, recycle, and reduce!
