D-Ring Road branch LuLu Supermarket on Sunday hosted a campaign organised by the Doha City Government to mark the International Day Against Plastic Bags.The event was held on the initiative of the Doha Municipal Government to educate people on the use of plastic bags.The ministry recently issued a decision to ban single-use plastic bags in Qatar from 15 November.The use of plastic bags approved by the Council of Ministers prohibits institutions, companies and shopping malls from using single-use plastic bags.LuLu and Doha city officials celebrate International Day without Plastic Bags at D-Ring Road branch The ministry encourages the use of eco-friendly alternatives such as multi-purpose plastic bags, biodegradable bags, paper or woven cloth bags and other biodegradable materials, To achieve Qatar’s strategic goals in protecting the environment and optimizing waste recycling investments.The event was attended by senior officials of the Ministry, including Ali al-Qahtani, Head of Inspection Team of the Food Control Section, and Dr. Asmaa Abu-Baker Mansour and Dr. Heba Abdul-Hakim of the Food Control Section.Many other dignitaries including LuLu Group International Director Dr Mohamed Althaf also attended the event.The head of the Doha City Health Inspection and Monitoring Department, al-Qahtani, said at the event that the event was taken after the Doha City Government decided to carry out the reusable bag in accordance with Ministerial Decision No. 143 of 2022. The mall hosts two days (Sunday and Monday) to educate people about the use of plastic bags.He said the decision would ban single-use plastic bags from all food establishments from Nov. 15, and replace them with eco-friendly alternatives with the wine glass and fork symbol, the international symbol for “food safe” materials.”Initially, this week there will be a campaign at two commercial outlets: Lulu Supermarket and Carrefour,” al-Qahtani said.A young girl receives an eco-friendly bag while learning about the importance of reducing plastic use to protect the environment.
